Interior Designer Spotlight: Beach House Tile

If you haven’t noticed, we absolutely love interior design and the interior designers that inspire amazing designs! We wanted to turn the spotlight on some of MIR’s clients that are filled with creativity and inspire others to use our tile selections every day (in unforgettable ways!) To that point, welcome to our monthly Featured Designer Spotlight series. Each month, we’ll be showcasing a designer or company founder that knows their way around tiles. Our first feature is with Lonna of Beach House Tile.

About Beach House Tile:

Lonna fulfilled a vision when she opened Beach House Tile and Design in 2017. During her first visit to Santa Rosa Beach in 2009, she was inspired by the stunning coastal beauty, architectural design and the people she met.

With more than 20 years of extensive experience she has collaborated with nationally recognized architects, designers and craftsman from across the country. Working with leading tile boutiques, in the Florida Keys and Palm Beach, Lonna developed considerable industry expertise, technical knowledge, and an affinity for coastal design. She possesses an innate desire to create spaces that exceed client expectations.

When not at Beach House Tile, Lonna spends time with Patch, Paisley, Chesney and Molly her adorable family of puppies.

Our Interview:

Tell us a little about your background; How did you get started in interior design?
“I took design courses in the community college in California where I am from and loved it.So my first job working in the industry was in a decorative Fabric showroom where we helped clients design their draperies, headboards, benches and drapery. Then when I moved to Florida Keys there was nothing like that so I went to work in the tile industry and loved it!”

What’s your favorite style of interior design?
“I absolutely love all design styles but my favorite is modern–really modern!”

What was your favorite project with MIR Tiles? Tell us a little about this project.
“My favorite project with MIR was back about 3 years ago when we did all the tile and wood flooring in a new construction home in Paradise by the Sea! We used a lot of Mother of Pearl mosaics as well as Coastal Breeze!”

What’s your favorite tile from MIR?

Shown above: Coastal Wave tile in bathroom

What’s the biggest shift you’ve seen in the last 2 years in interior design?
“I really have not seen a big shift in the interior design here other than a lot of wood flooring rather than stone or porcelain.”

Do you have a favorite tile trend of 2021?
“No favorite as it seems to stay pretty consistent with past years, picket and hexagon tiles.”

What do you think will be an interior design (or tile) trend in 2022?
“Honestly, I have no idea what will be the trend for 2022! The coastal beach area I live in it seems to stay coastal modern!”

We absolutely loved chatting with Lonna about all things tile and interior design. It’s always great to learn about how others see the tile industry and any insights they are finding. Being able to share them here, with you, is an added perk!
